Overview

Sikkim, a princely state in India,has a very diverse nature to offer. Thisplace lies at the north-east of the country and has a very rich flora and faunaapart from stunning mountains. Sikkim includes the third highest mountain in the world- Kanchenjunga peak. This state ismultilingual and multiethnic with a literacyrate of about 82 percent.
The state is home to many wildlife species, in addition to the lush evergreens and deciduous forests.Sikkim makes the most revenue through organic farming as terraced rice fields, tea gardens and the mostcapital income comes from cultivating Cardamom in the fields. This place comprises many falls, rivers, trekkingadventures and what not. One of the popular treks in Sikkim is Goecha La Trek,situated in the North, which has acclaimed its fame the recent years. This hikestarts from Yuksom situated at an altitude of 5,670 ft to Goecha La. Thehighest elevated point of this expedition would be the Goecha La, with an altimeterof 16,210 ft.
This trekking is for thenotable trekkers and not for the beginners as hiking gets complicated at times.Goecha La being the highest elevated spot offers a great panoramic view to thetrekkers, from its trail. Brief Itinearary
Day 1: Reach NJP and drive towards Yuksom (5,670 ft)

The first day ofthis expedition starts by your arrival at NJP,viz the Railway Station of Sikkim. The trek begins once you reach NJP and thentake 6 hours long drive to Yuksom. Yuksom, situated in the west- Sikkim isthe starting spot of the expedition and at an elevated height of 5,670 ft abovethe sea level. The place is known for its exquisitetraditions and heritage.For the insiders of the Country, there are certainregulations that need to be completed before heading on towards the trek. Youneed to first get the permission from the nearbyPolice Station and after reaching the expedition spot you need to pay off forthe services you are going to prevail. The total amount sums up to 700/- eachincluding the yaks, tents and other utilities and excluding the camera charges.This fee is to be handed over at the Forest Check Post at the beginning site ofthe trail. For theforeigners, the charges sum up to 2000/- each and they have to report a daybefore the start of the Goecha La trek at the Forest Checkpoint. It has been made essential for them to be in groups,even of two. Overnight stay happens to in the warm beds of guest houses/lodges.

Day 2: Hike from Yuksom (5,600 ft) to Sachen (7,150 ft).

You need to have an early breakfast and head for thetrekking day. Well, the trail for the dayends at Sachen which happens to be at an elevated height of 7,150 ft but somecan even head towards Bhakim situated at an altitude of 8,600ft. If you choseSachen then trek will be for almost 5hours and if the latter one is chosen as the desired point, then the trek mayconclude after 8-9 hours. From Yuksom you need to have an epic climbing toSachen. As the Goecha La Trail begins you are going to find yourself in amajestic Y-shaped angular valley.This valley owns the great River Rhotang. Abovethe bridge arrives the Pha Khola having the lush green forests and tall treesand a lot of monkeys. From Pha Khola movetowards Tshushay Khola falls. This placeincludes the succession of waterfalls. These falls descend into a river known as Per Chu River.As you climb the steep slopes you are going to reachMentagang Khola from where the trail of Sachen begins. At night have a sound sleep alongside the falls of Perk river.

Day 3: Move from Sachen (7,150 ft) to Tshokha (9,700 ft) via Bhakim(8,600 ft.)

This days trek starts as soon as the sun shows up. Post breakfast, start the trail with determinationas the difficult task is about to begin. The trek on this day concludes witha wholesome of 6 hours and covering the terrains of Phedang and later Dzongriat an elevation of 12,980 ft above the sea level. The hike starts from Tshokhamoving into the steep inclinations to reach Dzongri. As you have to be precautionary enough for the day, you are surely goingto get some cramps and the oxygen level too comes down but the splendid beauty thatsurrounds you will take all the painsaway. The terrains include the rosebay forests along with the purple liliesthat look wonderful on the way. On reaching Phedang you need to have a littlemore of the steep slopes to reach the landscape of Dzongri. Reach Dzongrithrough the epic hills and as the night befalls,stay in the guest rooms/ lodges.

Day 4: Footlog to Dzongri(12,980 ft) from (Tshokha 9,700 ft), via Phedang (12,000 ft.)

This days trek starts as soon as the sun shows up. Post breakfast, start the trail with determinationas the difficult task is about to begin. The trek on this day concludes witha wholesome of 6 hours and covering the terrains of Phedang and later Dzongriat an elevation of 12,980 ft above the sea level. Day 5: Rest day at Dzongri.

This day is meant to be the rest day for every trekkerpassing Dzongri. In the elevated landscape of Dzongri,the oxygen level stoops low, therefore, aperson needs to get well assimilated to the high-altitude terrains. After veryrough and tough trekking performed the previous day, you need to revitalizeyour energy and enthusiasm. By the evening you can move around the settlementsof Dzongri and have a night stay under the roof of stars at the site.

Day 6: Trudge from Dzongri (12,980 ft) to Dzongri top (13,675 ft).
Move to Thansing (12,900 ft) from the Dzongri top via Kokchurang (12,000 ft).

Today you need to reach the top of the Dzongri landscape.Trudge through the steep mountaineering and arrive at the Dzongri top elevatedhigh at an altimeter of 13,675 ft. The trek will get accomplished after whole 6hours as you reach Thansing. The stunningviews of Kanchenjunga & Pandim Peaksgive you a wonderful feeling during the whole trail. From Dzongri you need to ascendtowards the lower ridge at the top of Dzongri(13,650 ft. You are going to witness someamiable and colorful birds during the trail.As you descend through the terrains, you reach the landscape of Kokchurang standingat an elevation of 12,000 ft where you can take rest along with the afternoon meals in thelodge and later trek to Thanshing. From here movetowards the downhills of Padim, here you will notice the forests and the PrekChu river on the way. One must stoop a bit low of about 700 ft to reach theterritory of the preferred site for the day i.e. Thansing.

Day 7: Hike from Thansing(12,900 ft) to Lamuney (13,600 ft)

You are potentially nearer to the destiny viz Goecha la bynow. On this day you need to hike from the terrains of Thansing towards Lamuney at an altitude of 13,00ft. The trek gets concludedas you reach Lamuney. Rhododendronshrubs, lovely fascinating birds, cool breezes make it a pleasing journey to be on. The tough task begins fromthe mid-way of the trail moving into Lamuney. The rocky slopes, the gentle ones make it a bit tough but as you reachLamuney your discomfort will end. The trek concludes by the end of 2 hours andcovering over 1000+ ft to arrive in the terrains of Lamuney.

Day 08: Move from Lamuney to Goecha La (16,000 ft) viaSamiti Lake (14,100 ft)
Revert toThansing.

On this day you must headearly towards the last leg of the trek i.e Goecha La. Most of the times it gets cloudy and windyjust after the sun shows up, keeping that in mind one has to get up early havesome local meal and move towards the Goecha La pass. If it's sunny throughout, consider yourself fortunate enough. As youstart the trail, move past Samiti Lake, and reach the area above this lake calledZemathangPlateau. You need to cross rims for about 1 hour and as soon as the prayerflags get visible, know that you have reached you covet destination, Goecha Lapass. Have a look at one of the bestsights in the world and if you want you can take some picturesque photographsof this perfect sight. As you get contended with the amiable scenery of the Goechala pass, revert toThansing, surrounded by the peaks and therhodederous blossoms all over theterrain. The way to Thansing includes the gentle inclinations at times whereyou need to be a bit cautious. March through the landscapes of Samiti lake and the honeysuckle plantations. Bythe time you reach Thansing, take restfor the rest of the day.

Day 9: Trudge from Thansing to Tshokha via Phedang.

As you have reached Thansing the previous day, trudge through the ridges and moraines ofthe terrain and march to Tshoksa via Phedang. The Tibetan settlements inTshokha again fill you with a charismatic sensation. You will be able towitness the stunning Kanchenjunga Peak and theplateau of Phedang on the way. The waytowards the Tshokha is not that much difficult as you just need to put effortsstooping down the rocky terrains. The aisle moves past Prek Chu River, ascendingto the hamlet of tshokha.

Day 10: Move to Tshokha andthen to Yuksom via Bhakim and Sachen

You need to get up early and march towards the terrain of Yuksom. the trail passes from Bhakim andeventually moves into Sachen. >From Bhakim, move down to attain an altitude of7,150 ft leading to the settlementof Sachen. After you reach Sachen takethe path that leads to Yuksom, thestarting point of this expedition. En route Yuksom you will come across the magnificent peaks encircled by the clouds and the eating joints to dine for the day.Check into a guest house/ lodge and spendthe night in the cozy beds.

Day 11: Say goodbye to Yuksom and reach NJP

The last day of this distinguished and momentous travelfinally comes to an end. Have you morning meals and pack up your luggage to go back to your hometown. Bidfarewell to the locals and the majesticvalley of Sikkim. After you board the train takepictures of captivating hills and routes of the valley that move pastyou while traveling.
