Markha Valley Trek

Theregion of Ladakh has acquired the attention of many adventurists all over theglobe due to its well-acquainted trekking sites and sightseeing. One such trekis the Markha Valley Trek, located in the Himalayan region of Zanskar andLadakh, moving alongside the River Markha. One doesn't just happen to take thetrekking fun but also gets a chance to see ancient scripted Buddhistmonasteries, palaces, and villages on the way. As the place is situated nearTibet so it's being called as the Little Tibet. One can even witness theTibetan culture among the compassionate and generous people of Markha Valley,who also happen to be Buddhist. An added pinch of uniqueness is the opportunityto stay in parachute tents during the trek. This is the reason it has acquiredits new name as-Tea House Trek. Thisnotable trek is only performed during Summer period including little drizzle ofrain in the region i.e June till mid of October and during the winter monthsthis valley remains totally isolated.

Brief Itinerary
Day01: Reach Leh

Onehas to fly down to Leh, Ladakh in order to start off with this much excitingTrek.After your arrival at Leh get comfortable in your assigned Hotelroom/Guest Room and later stroll through the busy city market of Leh to getassimilated with the higher altitude climate. In case you have missed somethingfrom your trekking gear, you can buy it here but it's better to be on the saferside. The stay during the night is precisely going to be at your hotel room.

Day02: Drive to Zingchen(11,090 feet)

Trek to Yurutse (13,520 feet) Thisday will mark the beginning of the Markha Valley Trek. One needs to drive fromLeh to Zingchen situated at an altitude of 11,090 ft, thus crossing throughSpikut Village. After taking a look around one has to trek from Zingchentowards Yurutsu located at an elevation of 13,520ft. For an average trekker,this day will get concluded after 3 hours covering about 5 km.At the Campinghalt Yurutse, you can have the view of barley fields covering the whole areain and around. The overnight stay takes place in the tents.

Day03:Trek from Yurutse (13,520 feet) to Skiu (11,160 feet), via Ganda La (15,748 feet).

Onthis day, one needs to have an effective hike due to the later coming steepclimbs and rushy winds.As you have to cover whole 25kms in a day whicheventually gets completed within 7-8 hours, you need to pace up a little more,keeping safety in mind. During the day you are going to witness the Great Gods beauty, be it the Zanskar range or the Himalayan range. Through Ganda La, youneed to hike forward towards the gorge moving into Skiu. The overnight stay, asusual, happens to be in the tents under the roof of stars.

Day4: Move from Skiu (11,160 feet) to Markha (12,369 feet)

Assoon as the sun hits the landscape of Skiu, one needs to gear up for the nextchallenging day.The destined area is going to be alongside the River Markha,which looks enough charming during the night stay. The unbroken view of thewhole Skiu region surrounded with greenery and osier trees offers you withbreathtakingly beautiful nature.

Day5: Hike from Markha (12,369 feet) toThochuntse (13,165 feet)

Onthis day you are going to witness some human settlements and the nomadic peopleherding their yaks on the way. You need to arrive village Hanker in order toreach Thochuntse placed at an altitude of 13,000ft (approx).This place also happens to be the highest humansettlement in the whole Markha valley. The distance needed to cover up on thisvery fine day would be of not more than 13kms. The stay is, as usual, going tobe at a selected campsite in the charming Thochuntse valley.

Day6: Mobilise from Thochuntse (13,165 feet) to Nimaling (15,518 feet)

Thedestination on this day will be at the campsite of Nimaling, situated at anelevation of 15,518ft. You need to mobilize yourself from Hanker Village toNimaling.The landscape of Nimaling consists of the large and open terrains,particularly visible as Plateau. An additional beauty of nature that you arecertainly going to witness is the infamous, Mt. Kang Yatse, standing tall at6400m.The overnight halt will be in the tents, as proposed.

Day7: Nimaling (15,518 feet), to Shang Sumdo (12,237 feet), via Gongmaru La pass

Afteryou are done with the morning breakfast, in the dazzling sunlight, you need tomove to the highest elevation point of this whole trek, Gongmaru La pass, whichis at 17,060ft above the sea level. Once you reach the Gongmaru La pass take aparanormal view of this enchanted landscape.This pass is one of those whichconnect the Markha Valley with the Indus Valley. The whole day gets completedwith the trekking of at least 18 km, in just 8 hours to be precise. When youare satisfied with the memories of this landscape, move towards Shang Sumdowhich is placed at an elevation of 12,237ft. The terrain is at a gentleinclination, which gradually descends into a flat landscape later. Takea drive to Leh for the later hours of the day, thus accomplishing the MarkhaValley Trek. This day you are going to sleep back in the cozy warm beds again!

Day8: Departure day

Asthis exciting expedition gets over, one needs to head towards the Leh Airportfor the Departure. You are definitely going to feel nostalgic the moment youfly back to your hometown. The Valley and those generous faces of people aregoing to stay in your heart and memories forever, making you delighted andgleeful throughout the journey.
