LAMAYURU- DARCHA TREK

Lamayuru to Darcha is an extremely challenging trek that starts from Lamayuru and ends within the landscape of Darcha. Along the way you come across many famous and historic monasteries, majestic monuments, altruistic monks, charming villages, and the compassionate people of Ladakh. If you truly wish to experie nce Ladakh, not only in terms of trekking and visiting places but also want to come across and know its solicitous people along with with the culture and historic architecture, then this trek is just the right way to experience Ladakh.

Brief Itinearary
Day 01: Arrive at Leh

Once you have decided to be on Lamayuru to Darcha, brace yourself for another 21 days to accomplish this alpinism. Board the airplane from your hometowns and reach Kushok Bakula Rimpochee Airport to get down at Leh. Reach at Leh and take the overnight stay at the hotel.

Day 02: Leh to Photoksar via Lamayuru

After an early morning breakfast at leh, we leave for photoksar via lamayuru. This is the first day of the trek and one of the most memorable one too. We get too see some of the most famous monasteries and monuments along the way. These historic monuments are of most importance to the people of the village. We come across many villages and locals on our way to photoksar village (4200m). Here we have our first night camp and take an overnight rest.

Day 03:Photoksar to Singe La base

After entering Photang valley, we witness the locals and the village lifestyle all along the way. We also encounter the lush greenery and majestic landscapes during our trail. And with time we move towards our camp at singe la (4600m) and take a good rest for the night.

Day 04:Singe La to Gongma

Moving forward, once we are done with the breakfast, we reach Singe La (5100m). Singe La actually means Lion's pass . Moving forward we slowly descend towards the village of Gongma that is situated at an altitude of 3800m above the sea level. The whole trek for the day gets concluded within 6-7 hours thus crossing the boulders and the terrain of Singe La.Overnight stay will be at the Gongma campsite.

Day 05:Gongma to Lanang via Lingshed

We continue our way towards Lanang via Lingshed. On our way we come across religious and historic monuments and monasteries that are home for many of the monks living in the area. The infamous monastery is founded by the Gelugpa at this landscape. After taking a good look at the monasteries, we continue our trail to arrive at Lanang by the end of the day.

Day 06:Lanang to Zingchen via Hanumar La

Today you need to reach the landscape od Zingchen which is the spot of lush greenery during the whole trail. After ascending further, we will reach to the pass of Hanumur la that is at an elevated height of 4950m above the sea level. From there, the snow-capped peaks of Ladakh range are thoroughly visible and look spectacular.After resting at Snertse we will continue our trek to Zingchen. Zingchen lies just besides the river of Oma Chhu .Stay overnight at Zingchen camping site.

Day 07:Zingchen to Hanamur via Parfi la

Get up early and brace yourself to accomplish day's trekking. From here we descend to the banks of the Zanskar River and further to the village of Hanamur just lying ahead of the pass Hanamur La.While you will be heading towards Hanamur La, you need to cross the terrains of Parfi La and then descend into the village of Hanamur. Campsite for the night will be at the same landscape.

Day 08:Hanamur to Pishu

After traveling for another 2-3 hours we reach the village of pishu, a very scenic village located alongside the Zanskar river. Here we find peace and solace within the surroundings of Pishu.

Day 09:Pishu to Padum

We travel for 6-7 hours to reach Padum, which is the capital and a major trade centre of Zanskar. This place once used to be the crown capital of Zanskar Kingdom. On our way we also come across some famous monasteries among which is the majestic Karsha monastery,an oldest and home to around 150 monks. An elevated position gives us an entire landscaping view of the valley.

Day 10:Rest at Padum

This is a resting day for us in Padum.You can visit the popular twin monasteries on this day- Stakrimo and Sani. You can even check the local bazaar and interact with the altruistic people of Padum. Spend some time in solitude if you want by dipping down into the nature. Overnight stay will be at the Padum campsite.

Day 11: Padum to Raru

After spending a leisure day at Padum a day before get along with the trail that leads you to Raru at the end of the day. This days trek is alongside the banks of Tsarap river from where you descend into the monastery of Mune. As you move forward, you will reach at the campsite of Raru which is at an elevated height of 3900m.

Day 12: Raru to Pepula

As you get done with the breakfast, cross the river and trudge in tospy-turvy curves thus finally ascending into the pass of Pepula.Once you move past Pepula La, you tend to move into Pepula standing at an elevation of 3850m. Within the vicinity lies a tea stall where the tents are pitched for the night.

Day 13: Pepula to Purne

Today you need to cover the villages of Surle and Char and rivers of Tsarap and Kargyak to reach at Purne. Cross the bridge lying above the stream thus reaching the landscape of Purne. the whole trek gets concluded within 3-5 hours therefore reaching at an elevation of 3775m. Overnight camp will be at Purne.

Day 14: Purne to Phuktal to Purne

This day is booked for you to witness the architecture of Phuktal Monastery or Phugtal Gompa which is situated in the valley of Lungnak. This historic monastery is a home for about 70 buddisht monks. During the summer season the supplies are relocated through animals and during winters, through river Zanskar. This ancient gompa is located at an height of 3850m. Revert to Purne by evening and spent night there.

Day 15: Purne to Tetha

Post your tempting breakfast, you need to commene the trek from Purne to Tetha. You need to range over the Kargyak River and move into the yal village. This village is full of tribal settlements. Futhermore you need to ascend into the flat plateau called as Tetha standing at an elevated height of 3950. Overnight stay will be at the wide plateau of Tetha.

Day 16: Tetha - Kargyak

Today you need to arrive at Kargyak by the end of the day. Move towards Karu, the stone walled area from Tetha and later move into Tanze. At Tanze, tramp over the bridge and arrive at the village of Kargyak which stands at an elevation of 4050 m thus being the highest settlement in Zanskar. Overnight stay will be at the campsite of Kargyak.

Day 17: Kargyak to Lakhang

Lakhang is the ultimate spot for this day and to reach there you need to move past paddock feilds used for making the yaks and sheeps graze over it. There also stands a megalith namely Gumburanjanwhile which you are going to spot while you follow the trail. It takes around 4-5 hours to reach Lakhang thus elevated at 4470m. Overnight stay will be at the camping site of Lakhang.

Day 18: Lakhang to Ramjak via Shinkul la

As soon as you are done with your meals, trek for another 7-8 hours to arrive at the valley of Ramjak thus moving through Shinkul La. The start of trek begins with some steep inclinations and later when you traverse the river you arrive at Shinku La elevated at 4980m. Have a great panoramic view of the massifs that you witness from a distance. Descend down towards the desired sight of Ramjak thus elevated at 4290m.Overnight stay will be within the landscape of Ramjak.

Day 19: Ramjak to Pal Lhamo

For you to arrrive at Pal Lhamo, placed at an elevation of 3700m above the sea level. From Ramjak you need to tramp over several streams to reach Pal Lhamo. Just before descending to Pal Lhamo, you need to traverse a much bigger stream. the trek gets concluded within 4-5 hours of alpinism.

Day 20: Pal Lhamo to Darcha Sumdo (3300m) 3-4 h

Freshen up, finish your morning meals and get going on the lest leg of this trek. Mobilize from Pal Lhamo to Darcha Sumdo.Descend down from 3700m to 3300m in altitude. Move past the village of Chika and Rarik to descend into Darcha Sumdo from where the perfect road commences

Day 21: Departure Day

Today you need to drive from Darcha Sumdo to the nearest town viz Manali. The drive of around 7 hours through Rohtang pass. Depart from the city of Manali to your hometown and cherish the memories of this wondrous journey throughout your life.
