Overview

Nun Summit, elevated at an average altimeter of 23,060 ft is in the landscape of Suru Valley. This valley is situated nearer to the Line of Control of J&K. Another mountain namely Kun stands at an altitude of 23,218 ft, sharing the same landscape. These twin-summit peaks are separated by a 4 km long snowy plateau of Zanskar. Easy access to this summit is from Leh, Ladakh. Nun lies in Karakoram range located 250 km east of the summer capital. To complete the trail, one can take either ofthe two routes towards the Nun Summit. First one is from the Tangol Basevillage and another one is from Gulmatongo. Mostpeople chose the former route towards the Nun-Kun massif. Pinnacle Peak, at 22,736 ft. is third highest in this range. There are certain criteria incorporated in this alpinism task, and they are as follows: 1You need to be fit and fine to join the group for mountaineering. If you are having any fatal ailments related to your lungs such as Bronchitis, asthma etc., then this alpinism is not for you, keeping your safety in mind. 2You must keep the essentials handy for the mountain climbing, be it the navigating tools like compass or GPS, or the sun protection lotions. Insulated jackets, vests, and gloves are a must to bear the chilled weather around you. Flashlights for the night navigation through the route and first-aid supplies are needed during the trail. 3.If you are suffering from any heart disease its advisable to not go for this alpinism to be cautious about your health. 4.Acute mountain sickness is also known as altitude sickness is added to the list of ailments, suggesting not to be on any such expedition.

Brief Itinerary
Day1: Arrive at Leh or Srinagar.

Onceyou have decided to be on such expedition, brace yourself for another 21 daysto accomplish the Nun summit alpinism. Board the airplane from your hometownsand reach Kushok Bakula Rimpochee Airport to get down at Leh and if yourdestination happens to be Srinagar, then you need to disembark atSheikh-ul-Aalam International Airport. Either of the two places issuitable to set off this journey. Take the overnight stay at the hotel.

Day2: Acclimatization day at Srinagar/Leh.

Getwell-acquainted and assimilated into theclimate as you must move towards high-altitude passes in the coming days.Stroll through the markets of the town, be it Srinagar or Leh. If you are atSrinagar, move around Boulevard road and if you forgot something from themountaineering gear, purchase it from the famous market of Lal Chowk. Day3:- Drive from Leh to Kargil or Srinagarto Kargil.

Mobilizeyourself from Leh/Srinagar to reach Kargil, walkingpast the enthralling beauty of the region. Kickstart your trail by drivingthrough the longest National Highway, NH-1 to reach the desired destination.Drive from Leh to Kargil is of over 220 km which is covered with the least of7-8 hours. En route Kargil from Srinagar, you need to cover up 203 km whichgets completed by the end of 5 hours. Along the drive,you are going to enjoy some of the magnificent and stunning views. Greenmountains snow-capped all over the range, the clouds encircling the Cyprustrees that are placed over the peaks and the rocky terrains is what the journeywould be all about.You are even going to see the marvelous rivers through thetrip- Zanskar and Indus along with the infamous Magnetic Hill, Gurudwara Pather Sahib, and Lamayuran Moon Land. Once you reach Kargil, look at the terrain by the evening and as its nighthave a stay in the hotel at Kargil sector.

Day 4: Drive from Kargil to Tangol base village.

As soon as its dawn, freshen up and have your early breakfast. Youhave got to drive from Kargil to the first leg of the trail, i.e., Tangol. Youhave reached an altitude of 11,911 ft. bytaking a drive of 5 hours to be precise. Kargil happens to be a very small townwith not many settlements then Leh. Ifyou need to buy something before the expedition starts, do it here. The firstglimpse of Nun -Kun is witnessed from this place. The villages that you aregoing to come across would be, Sankhoo, Panihar, Parkachik and Tangol villageitself. It's great to see the schools, farmlands, homes during the trail ofSuru Valley. The overnight stay takes place in the tents by the road head atTangol.

Day5:- Move from Tangol base village to Basecamp.

Startthe day with the morning meals and head towards the Base Camp at an altimeterof 15,091ft. The climatic conditions can be a bit chilly and cold even in themid of the year. By this time, you need to carry your luggage with precautionsas to trek upwards to reach the BaseCamp. If you can't go on with the baggage, then hire a porter to do so. As its dusk, you are precisely going to be at the Base Camp. The trail will be halted for a nightstay at the campsite.

Day6:- Load ferry and acclimatization at Basecamp.

Onthis day the group members need to load ferry to the Base Camp and get versedwith the surroundings at the campsite. Once you are well acclimated to the climate at an altitude of4,600 m above the sea level, you can move forward towards the Advance Base Campthe very next day.

Day 7:- Trudge from Base camp toAdvanced Basecamp and back to Basecamp.

Post breakfast, the members of the mountaineering need to move upwardsto the ABC (Advance Base Camp). You need to tune-in to the higher-altitudeenvironment and head back towards the Base Camp later. Take rest for the nightat the campsite and get ready for the next day.

Day 8:- Load ferry to Advanced Basecamp and overnight camping at ABC.

Being the part of the group, you need to load ferry on this day andget well versed in the surroundings ofAdvance Base Camp as well. As you take a footslog around the environs, you areprobably going to get adapted to the climate at ABC, which is going to behelpful for the coming days of the trail. Get some sleep in the tents for thenight and be ready to face the odds the next day.

Day9:- Footslog from Advance Base camp to Camp Irecce, load ferry and back to ABC.

After you are done with your meals, get back to trekking and startfrom ABC to reach Camp I.if you want you can look around the place and get some information about thecampsite. Meanwhile, the members of the mountaineering group need to load ferryto Camp I and later you must head back to the Advance Base Camp by the evening.Overnight stay takes place inside the tents at the campsite.

Day10:- Move from ABC to Camp I, load ferry and overnight at the campsite.

On this day you are going to witness someice falls that you need to cross by the end of the day. The route that youneed to go through is about 200m in total. Descendingfrom Advance Base Camp, Reach 5800m where the Camp Iis situated. Overnight stay takes placeinside the tents at the campsite.

Day 11:- Camp I to Camp II recce and load ferry and back to Camp I.

This epic climb continues through the rocky terrains moving from CampI to Camp II. On this day the Nun Summit will look a bit overshadowed due to the clouds and the adjacent peaks. Trekfrom Camp I to Camp II and perform the same series of events what you had donea day before, while you were headingtowards Camp I from ABC.

Day 12:- Camp I to Camp II load ferry.

After you are done with your morning meals, get along with the group andload ferry at the camp. The night will offer you with the sheet of stars placedover your tents. Overnight stay happens to be at campsite II and get mentallyprepared for the next arrival day.

Day13:-Camp II to Camp III recce and load ferry.

Trudgetowards Camp III at the beginning of this morning. You need to perform similarevents throughout the journey, till you reach the Nun Summit. Get assimilatedand well-versed with the climatic conditions at this altimeter, above the sealevel. Take some notes of the realm of nature captivating your eyes. Load ferryis to be done as the other days and later halt by the campsite to have anovernight stay in the tents.

Day 14:- Camp II to Camp III and overnight at the campsite.

On this day you are going to be on an icy plateau at 6400 meters abovethe sea level. There happens to be a much-expected wider landscape just belowthe belt of Nun summit, by the end of the day. Descendingfrom Camp II, reach the stretch of the Camp III.Overnight stay takes place inside the tents at the campsite.

Day 15:- Camp III to Summit camp.

Day 16:- Summit camp to Nun summit and back to Camp III.

Day 17:- Reserve day for the summit.

This day is totally for you to celebrate your achievement of reaching Mt. Nun after many days of trampingand slogging. The daylight gives it asplendid look and the rays just above the peak givethis place a full panoramic view making us fall for it. The stretch of thisZanskar plateau at the end of 4 km arrives at mt. Kun, another famous peak of this Karakoram range, resting at anelevated height of 23,218 ft.

Day 18:- Slog from Camp III to ABC.

Post your meals, revert to the Advance Base Camp from the thirdCampsite. You need to move through Camp III and then slog past Camp II. Halt atCamp II for a while and again start off the trail towards Camp I. After you getthrough all the three campsites, you are going to be at Advance Base Camp forthe day. Stay overnight takes place inside the tents at ABC.

Day 19:- Trek back to Base Camp from Advance Base Camp.

On this day get up early and take your meals. Head towards Basecamp situated at an altimeter of 4600m.Once you get through the trail moving from ABC to Base Camp, you are eventuallygoing to find yourself in the landscape of Base Camp. Take rest for overnightby the campsite at Base Camp.

Day 20:- Trek from Base camp to Tangol base village and start forKargil

Keep the trekking going even on the 20th day of this expedition. You need to move pass Tangol Base village to drive to Kargil for therest of the day. After you arrived at the base camp, tramp towards the Tangol, the first and last leg of thisexpedition. Stay at Kargil for the night and start-off for the road trip toLeh/Sgr the very next day.

Day 21:- Drive from Kargil to Leh/Srinagar via road.

As you had arrived Kargilthrough the highway route, the same route is to be taken for reverting to theCity. You can pave your way either to Leh or Srinagar. it all depends on yourwillingness towards the end of the expedition.Once again you are going to witness the beautiful landscape of Ladakh on theway. As you reach either of the city, make a stayat the hotel that is nearby to the centrallocation so that you get to see some attractions for the rest of the day.

Day 22:- Stay at Leh/Srinagar.

After you are done with the meals in the morning, tend to move out for doing some sight-seeing. If youhappen to be at Srinagar, move throughBoulevard and catch some fun at Mughal Gardens. Do the Shopping from the LalChowk area of the city and view the sunset at the dazzling Dal lake. If youhave taken the route to Leh yesterday, you are probably going to do somesight-seeing at the ancient Monasteriesand royal palaces. You can even Stroll through the market of Leh for the handicrafts.Stay at the hotel/ guest house for the night andfly down to your hometown the following day.

    Best Time to go for mountaineering in Ladakh

    Mountaineering in Ladakh can be better enjoyed in summer season. However, some of the daring souls also prefer to go for the nerve wrecking jaunt in winter as well. Hence, April to September is the best time for mountaineering in Ladakh.

    One is not required to have any knowledge of climbing/mountaineering skills but one should have experience of trekking at altitudes upwards of 4000 – 4500m

    .Climatic conditions in the high altitudes vary from the plains; take adequate time to get acclimatized to high altitudes
    .Pay heed to the guidelines given by trek leader or instructor in order to enjoy a safe and sound trekking experience
    .Consumption of alcohol or any other intoxicating products are prohibited during this trek
    .Avoid trekking during the nights
    .Consult with a physician if you are fit to undertake the trek
    .Carry basic medications and a first-aid kit during the trek
    .The trek takes place through eco-friendly zone; do not encourage littering the local sites or campsites

    Experience of any high altitude trek at least 1 trek

    · The climber must be fit and have sufficient stamina to cover 5 km of distance in 45minutes without a stress.
    · The climber should be able to carry a 10 kg backpack.
