Overview

Kashmir, the living paradise on Earth, is not only famous for its hypnotic beauty but also famous for some captivating trekking and mountaineering. This place is often referred as "Jannat-e-Benazir"- a heaven that has no example, just because of it's beyond beautiful landscape that is found nowhere in the world. Trekking in Kashmir is totally distinguished from rest of the treks as alpinism here is all about easy climbing and beautiful environs.
Tarsar Marsar Trek is one such hiking whee the climbing includes moderate slopes and climbs. This trek is named after the famous twin lakes - Tarsar and Marsar possessing the shape of an almond and less saline in nature. Enroute Tarsar Marsar you are going to witness a great amount of flora and fauna. There are all two routes to reach Tarsar Marsar - one is via Aru at Pahalgam and another one is through Nage-Baren, via tral. Mostly the former route is adopted to reach the desired destination.
Tarsar - Marsar has been a popular spot for many centuries. The 16th-century ruler of Kashmir has even mentioned the names of these lakes in his poetic verse stating-
When I remember the two tresses of the comely beloved,
Tears begin to flow from my eyes like streams from Tarsar and Marsar

Brief Itinearary
Day 1: Arrive at Srinagar and Drive to Aru base camp.

This memorable journey starts with your arrival at Srinagar International Airport. As you disembark at the airport by morning, head towards your hotel at Srinagar. Either catch some sightseeing for an hour or two or have a rest in your hotel room. As soon as its afternoon, drive towards Aru Basecamp from where the real journey will start. This drive will be for around 4 hours until you reach the base camp.

Day 2: Aru to Lidderwat

You are precisely going to open your eyes to the most enchanting view in the morning as you tend to move out of your dwelling. As soon as the sun hits the landscape of Aru Valley, brace yourself for the trekking that is going to take place today. From an Altitude of 7,958 ft, you need to attain an elevation of 9,131 ft, thus reaching the spot of the day- Lidderwat. Today your eyes are factually going to be wide open and struck seeing the nature�s beauty around. The day's trek is going to be easy thus consumes less amount of time because of the less distance that needs to be covered. You are going to move past some of the tribal settlements today viz Dalla, Nandkei, and Lidderwat. From Aru, you need to get going towards Dalla formerly and later this trail will move into Nandkei having streams and pine trees spread all over the place. Get along with the trail thus crossing the wooden bridge that needs to be crossed individually and reach Lidderwat, the desired place for the day. Tourism in Lidderwat is controlled by PDA (Pahalgam Development Authority. Be it the small stalls for tourists or the huts made to make them halt for the night, all the look after done by PDA. Overnight can be spent in these huts or by the campsite pitched anywhere within the vicinity.

Day 3: Lidderwat to Shekwas

As soon as you wake up, catch up the trail and keep moving forward till you arrive at the spot you have been yearning for all these days. Today the trekking will end by end of 5 hours, covering about 6 km approximately. This charming trail that you need to follow is going to take your breath away. Stream running below you and you moving over the lush greenery landscape is what this trek is all about. You are going to reach Homwas thus following the course of the stream and halt at some tribal settlement in between. Here you are going to observe the convergence of many valleys at once with mountains having snow patches at the apex and encircled with clouds. Moving on you reach the beautiful landscape of Shekwas at an altimeter 11,039 ft. have a sound sleep overnight.

Day 4: Shekwas to Tarsar and explore Tarsar

Finally, the day arrives on which you are going to view the beautified landscape of Tarsar along with its famous Tarsar Lake. This lake is stretched for around 2 km with its input coming from the melting glaciers that cover the terrains of Tarsar and finally its input moving into the upcoming Lidder River. The trekking gets concluded by the end of 4 hours in which you need to cover about 5 km. Tarsar Lake is an almond-shaped lake which is rich in flora and fauna having geum, blue poppy, potentilla and gentian and Kashmir stag (hangul), ibex, musk deer, snow leopard, Himalayan brown bear respectively in its adjoining vicinity. Not merely this, the landscape of Tarsar is a paradise covered with snow melted mountains feeding the lake.

Day 5: Tarsar to Sundarsar (5 km, 5 hours)

On this day you are going to follow the trail heading towards Sundarsar. We get at the terrains of Sundarsar after not so difficult hiking from the landscape of Tarsar to Sundarsar. As its name goes, Sundarsar is a beautiful landscape having some fir vegetations along the trail. The trekking gets concluded after the end of 5 hours covering around 5 km approximately. Speaking of the trail, it�s so far, the best trail having the perfect blend of nature. The valley, streams, pond and the lush green floor makes you think as if it�s all hypothetical. One tends to forget everything else in the world and dips deep down into nature as if it's talking to you. Those feels can�t be described in words, but only felt.
The green meadows, tribal settlements, streams, is what this trail has to offer. The trek for the day would be moderate. The starting of the trail would be a steep inclination which needs to be crossed and in later hours of the trek are the easy inclinations which are not so curvy and slippery. Once you are done with the topsy-turvy inclinations along the trail, you arrive at Sundarsar.

Day 6: Sundarsar to Marsar. Revert To Sundarsar . Sundarsar to Sonmasti

Once again you are going to witness another almond shaped lake, which is less saline I nature. It is so like Tarsar Lake that both are being called as Twin-sisters. This hidden asset acclaimed to fame when Tarsar Marsar Trek gained the tourist attractions. The lake is parted by a mountain with an altimeter of 13,000 ft from its twin lake Tarsar. The beauty surrounding this lake is worth catching a glimpse. The mountains surrounding the lake and the crystal blueish water, the small flowers spread all over the landscape and the clear blue sky having its mirror image into the Marsar Lake is what the tourists fall hard for. There are total two trails from Sundarsar that descend into the meadows of Marsar. The easiest and often taken route is towards the left. The Marsar Lake is situated in between the Dachigham National park on the right and valley descending into Tral to its left.
Once you your travel desires get fulfilled, head back to the Sonmasti that comes in between the trail, leading towards the settlement of Sumbal. Overnight stay at Sonmasti and follow the last leg tomorrow.

Day 7: Sonmasti to Sumbal. Drive to Srinagar.

This is the final day that ends into the most beautiful city of Kashmir, Srinagar. Post your appetizing breakfast, you need to move along the trail moving into the town of Sumbal. This town is elevated at a height of 5108 ft and this noted town is famous in the district. The route from Sumbal is a direct way to the city Srinagar. If you wake up by the morning, the trek from Sonmasti to Sumbal and when you finally reach to Sumbal and from there take a drive and head towards Srinagar City by the time its dusk. Take some rest in the allocated hotel or get some sightseeing of the city by the bunds of Dal Lake and Mughal Gardens. Overnight stay takes places in your respective rooms and later head to your hometown the next day after such a blissful trek.

    Experience of any high altitude trek at least 1 trek

    · The climber must be fit and have sufficient stamina to cover 5 km of distance in 45minutes without a stress.
